CES 2020 Trends to Watch:

Lenovo’s Legion Boost Station makes any laptop a gambling device Samsung Galaxy laptop will turn heads at CES 2020 – and foldable PCs may be following CES 2020 could be a monumental show for calculating, with a lot of big innovations in route. Here is what to be aware of.

5G

In preparation for 5G’s launch throughout larger swaths of the nation, we’re hoping to see a lot more laptops sporting mobile broadband. These always-connected laptops will be faster than anything we have seen before and can act as a hotspot in a pinch. While we have gotten glimpses of several notebooks like the beautiful Galaxy Book S, we’re expecting to see far more options. Qualcomm will be a key player in this space as the company lately exposed its Snapdragon 7c and 8c chips. Targeting entry- and mid-level laptops, Qualcomm is looking to bring always-connected approaches to mainstream consumers in a big way.

But we should also be watching out for Qualcomm’s 8cx chip.  A 7-nanometer processor, the 8cx processor is included in the company’s Project Limitless concept and is supposed to provide better performance and longer battery life along with LTE connectivity.  Samsung is also rumored to be working on a 5G tablet, the Galaxy Tab S6.

Foldable PCs and Dual Screens

Now that foldable phones are kind of something, it is only natural that pill makers are going to want a piece of this action. But if we do see a consumer-ready device, we expect it will come from Lenovo. It has been reported that the company has set a date of Q2 2020 because of its very first foldable, a version of this ThinkPad X1.

Another potential competitor is Microsoft, which is allegedly launching the Surface Neo sometime in Q3 2020. Since the foldable market starts to heat up, don’t think for a second that notebook manufacturers are not going to be searching for methods to add another display to their setups. But we would not be surprised if we saw a lot of dual-screen concepts at the show.

AMD Returns:

AMD’s been killing it on the desktop front over the historical few years. And the organization is long overdue for a serious comeback on the mobile front. We’re pretty certain that AMD will be making some statements regarding mobile throughout the company’s keynote Jan. 6. From there, we’re hoping to view mid- to upper-tier notebooks wearing a Ryzen CPU or even a Radeon GPU. And while we are excited at the potential of getting AMD processors in laptops, we are more hopeful about the graphics cards.

Even More 10th Gen

If you thought Intel was done rolling out all of the 10th Gen goodies, then you are definitely confused. The company is still working on presenting its Project Athena initiative. And that means more laptops.

Business laptops that have Intel’s iPro technologies like the HP Elite Dragonfly have been forced to utilize 8th Gen chips because 10th Gen doesn’t support the technology yet. We are also waiting to see the coming of 10th Gen H-series chips for gaming laptops.
